The Captain: Commonweal Fanart

I have been saying for ages that I should put my Commonweal fanart on this blog. Finally getting to it, which includes backdating the stuff I've already posted to tumblr. Drawing + commentary under the cut.

Hard to get more iconic than, “Uh, sorry, Captain, I, uh, had no idea graul were short. Sir.” in The March North, or in this case, a moment before. The whole of the dead-or-demon question, long pondering as to why the battalion won't congeal, and then it turns out that nobody ever guessed graul, because: short. And various other complicating factors, but still.

A lot more studying of armor here, compared to the previous drawing of Blossom. Pulled in some old nordic designs for the sword hilts and the cuirass straps, drawing on the graul name-styles and the Captain's choice of  music. I particularly like this metal cover of Curse Upon Iron for the feeling of the March. Happily, I did not need to figure out What Is Up with Graul Knees for this (nor do I later try to figure out the anatomy changes for two hearts, better wrists, and other mentions across various ilks) however I do have a theory that they've got a version of the ostrich thing going on with extra bone-bits for more ligament/muscle attachments. Ostriches are also canon to the commonweal area, so why not stick 'em in there with the Placoderms as a reference for tooth-plates. (I have many questions about how the power does interfaces for biology... wouldn't know where to start, but the question marks are there at least.)
